Medina Concrete is a concrete contractor in Powder Springs, and this is where the company is based. Owner Francisco Medina lives and works in southwest Cobb County, so a driveway on the other side of town is a short trip for him rather than a drive across the metro.
Most of what we pour here goes in front of and behind houses in the subdivisions that spread out from downtown toward Lost Mountain and the Paulding County line. Those lots tend to run bigger than the ones closer to Atlanta, which means longer driveways, wider patios and room for a shop or barn slab out back.
Francisco walks every property himself before he writes a number down. He checks where the water goes after a storm, how the clay has settled around the old slab, and how a mixer truck will reach the forms, then tells you what he would do and why. Se habla español.
Long driveways are common on the larger Powder Springs lots, and length changes the plan: more control joints, closer attention to the fall from the garage to the street, and a base that will not wash out at the low spot. We break out cracked asphalt or old concrete, regrade, form and pour.
Backyards here often have space for a patio that fits a table, a grill and a few chairs with lawn left over. We pour plain broom finish, or a grid of slabs with black river rock in the joints, a look that suits a wide, flat yard.
Owners on the acreage toward Lost Mountain ask for pole barn floors, workshop slabs and pads for sheds and trailers. Those slabs get rebar over a compacted base, a thickness picked for what will sit on them, and a power trowel finish when they go indoors.
Plenty of Powder Springs houses have a back door several feet above the yard, which is where a raised deck with stairs, and a slab poured underneath it, earns its keep. On flat ground we build low decks too, some with benches built in.
Red Clay, Creeks and Drainage Around Powder Springs
Powder Springs Creek and its branches run through the middle of town, and much of the low ground near them stays soft for days after a heavy Georgia rain. When a driveway or patio sits on that kind of ground, what goes under the concrete matters as much as the concrete itself.
Red clay swells when it is wet and shrinks when it dries out in August. We dig out the soft material, bring in gravel, compact it in layers and slope the finished surface so rain heads away from the foundation instead of pooling at the back door.
Summer heat matters too. A slab poured on a 95 degree afternoon loses water fast, so a pour goes best in the cooler part of the day, with the surface kept damp while it cures. After that, sealing every couple of years is the simplest care a homeowner can give it.
Downtown Homes and Newer Subdivisions
The streets around the old downtown and Thurman Springs Park have older houses with narrow walks, short driveways and steps that have shifted over the years. Replacing them is often about removing a trip hazard and getting rain off the steps, not adding square footage. Our sidewalks, walkways and steps page covers that work.
Out along Macland Road, Brownsville Road and the roads toward Hiram, most homes sit in subdivisions with a garage in front and a fenced yard behind. Those owners more often want a driveway extension for a second car, a patio off the back slider, or a privacy fence once the yard is finished. We build the wood privacy fences and gates on our fence installation page.
Toward Lost Mountain and the Paulding County line, some properties still have long gravel drives and outbuildings scattered across the lot. Pouring the first stretch in from the road, or an apron and a parking pad where the truck sits, is a common way to start without concreting the whole drive at once.
Working Close to Home
Because we are based here, Powder Springs is where Francisco can most easily meet you on a weekday, look at the job again after a hard rain, or come back to measure for a second project. Neighbors in Austell and Hiram are only a little farther down the road.
The estimate is free. It covers what has to come out, what the base needs, the finish you want and how the site will be left, so you know what you are agreeing to before anything is broken out.

Can you pour a driveway or patio on low ground near Powder Springs Creek?
Yes, but the base needs more work there. Soft, wet clay gets dug out and replaced with compacted gravel, and the finished slab is sloped so water drains away from the house. Francisco looks at how the ground behaves after rain before he plans the job.
How thick does a concrete slab need to be for a driveway?
Most residential driveways are poured about four inches thick over a compacted gravel base. Where heavy trucks, RVs or trailers will park, we pour thicker and add reinforcement. The right thickness for your driveway comes out of the free estimate.
How much does a concrete driveway usually cost?
It depends on the size, whether old asphalt or concrete has to be broken out and hauled away, how much grading and base the ground needs, and the finish. Access for the mixer truck matters too. Francisco measures and gives you a free estimate for your driveway.
How deep should a concrete base be for a patio?
A patio slab is usually about four inches of concrete on a layer of compacted gravel, with any soft clay removed first. Wetter ground or a slab that will carry a hot tub or heavy grill needs more. We set the depth after looking at your yard.
How much do builders charge to build a deck?
The price follows the deck size, its height off the ground, the stairs and railing, and the footings it sits on. Adding a concrete slab underneath is priced as part of the same project. Call for a free estimate and Francisco will go over each piece.
