Concrete Contractor in Austell, GA

Retaining walls, driveways and slabs for Austell properties on both sides of Sweetwater Creek, a short drive from our Powder Springs base.

Medina Concrete is a concrete contractor close to Austell, based about 10 to 20 minutes away in Powder Springs. We build retaining walls, driveways, slabs and fences for homeowners around Sweetwater Creek and the hills above it.

Austell is a small city where Cobb County meets Douglas County, with Thornton Road, the East-West Connector and Veterans Memorial Highway all passing through. A great deal of its ground slopes toward Sweetwater Creek and the streams that feed it, and that shapes almost every outdoor job here.

When Francisco Medina visits, he reads the grade and the runoff before anything else. Then he explains what it would take to hold back the slope or send the water somewhere harmless, in English or in Spanish.

Austell Projects We Take On

Block retaining wall along a graded slope with a fence above

Retaining Walls

A sloped Austell yard can give up a little soil in every heavy storm until the fence leans or the patio edge hangs in the air. A block or poured wall with a footing, drainage gravel behind it and an outlet for the water turns that bank into level ground you can use.

Driveways

Steep drives need a coarser broom texture for traction and a clear plan for the water collecting at the bottom. We pour new driveways and replace broken ones, pitched so runoff does not sheet into the garage.

Formed concrete slab with a rebar grid on red clay

Slabs and Pads

Sheds, carports, trailer pads and workshop floors all start with a slab. We set forms, lay rebar over compacted stone and pour at a thickness matched to the weight it will carry.

Wood Privacy Fences

Once a slope is held, a pine privacy fence along the top of the wall finishes the yard. We build fences and gates, including double gates wide enough for a mower or a small trailer.

Everything else we do is on the services page.

Building Near Sweetwater Creek

Austell residents remember the September 2009 flood, when Sweetwater Creek rose into homes and streets across the city. Not every property sits near the water, but most of the city drains toward it, and that deserves a place in any plan for new concrete.

On these lots we keep new work from acting like a dam. Patios and driveways get a fall that steers water around the house, retaining walls get drain pipe and an exit for it, and we avoid raising the grade where it would push runoff onto the property next door.

Sweetwater Creek State Park lies just across the Douglas County line, and the creek valley there shows how quickly the land falls toward the water. Yards at the bottom of an Austell hill tend to collect runoff from the houses above them, so a new driveway down there often needs a trench drain or a grassy swale alongside it.

Slopes, Clay and the Ground Under Austell Yards

Away from the creek, much of Austell sits on hills that were cut for subdivisions off Austell Road, Clay Road and Maxham Road. Those cuts left steep banks behind many houses, and a red clay bank slumps when it stays wet through a rainy spring.

A wall that lasts here sits on a footing below the loose topsoil, with its first course buried and clean gravel against the back of the blocks instead of clay. Nobody sees that part once the job is done, and it is the part that decides whether the wall stays straight over the years.

Taller walls, or walls holding up a driveway or a building, can call for geogrid layers tied back into the soil or an engineered design. Francisco tells you at the estimate when a wall is past the point where a standard block wall makes sense.

A Short Drive from Powder Springs

Austell lies between our home base and the towns to the south and east, so it is one of the easiest places for us to work. The same trip covers jobs in Mableton and Lithia Springs.

Older houses near downtown Austell and the rail lines often have gravel or bare dirt for parking beside the house. A poured parking pad with a short apron to the street keeps mud off the porch and gives a second car a level place to sit.

Estimates are free. If a slope project also needs a new patio or walkway at the top, we price them together, and our concrete patios page shows what that slab work involves.

Why Austell Property Owners Choose Us

  • Close by. Our Powder Springs base is a short trip up the road, so Austell is part of our regular working area.
  • Water planned for. Every wall, slab and driveway is laid out around where Austell runoff heads during a hard rain.
  • Straight answers on slopes. Francisco Medina sizes up the bank himself and explains the options, from a short garden wall to a full retaining wall.
  • Se habla español. If Spanish is easier at home, Francisco can walk you through the drainage plan and the estimate in Spanish.

Austell Concrete Questions

Can you build a retaining wall on a slope that drains toward Sweetwater Creek?

Yes. The wall sits on a footing below the loose topsoil, with gravel and drain pipe behind it so water can get out instead of pushing on the blocks. We also make sure the new grade does not send runoff onto a neighbor.

Do you work on both the Cobb and Douglas County sides of Austell?

Yes. We cover Cobb, Paulding and Douglas counties, so an Austell address on either side of the county line is in our area. Austell is a short drive from our Powder Springs base.

What is the cheapest retaining wall option?

The cost depends on the wall height and length, the material, how much digging and drainage it needs, and how easy the site is to reach. A short segmental block wall is usually simpler than a tall poured wall or one that needs an engineered design. Francisco will look at the slope and give you a free estimate for the options that fit.

Can I pour concrete directly on dirt?

Not if you want it to last. Concrete poured straight onto red clay settles and cracks as the clay swells and shrinks, so we remove the soft soil and pour on a compacted gravel base. Slabs for sheds or shops also get rebar.

What is the best fence for privacy?

A solid wood privacy fence with boards set tight together, usually six feet tall, blocks the view from the yard next door. We build pine privacy fences with single or double gates. Check any height limits with your city or subdivision before you build.

Is it cheaper to replace or repair concrete?

A small crack or a single settled panel can sometimes be repaired, but a driveway or patio that is broken in many places or sinking is usually better replaced with a new base. Francisco will tell you honestly which one your concrete needs at the free estimate.
